Rare Sheaffer Targa 1083 black lacquer spiral fountain pen with 14K gold nib and gold trim. See photos for Sheaffer imprints, which are very clear. Includes the original hard case and instruction booklet. This model was hand lacquered 14 times and then hand-polished to a deep luminous glow. Sheaffer USA started producing this version of the 1083 in 1990.
The thin gold ring on the cap, above the ring on the body, identifies this as the 1990 model. Also, it has a slightly fancier end to the barrel than the previous version. One owner: I bought this at the world-famous Harvard Coop (Harvard Cooperative Society) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1990 or 1991. I did use this pen while I was in college in the 90s, but it has been stored in its box since then.
Filling System takes Sheaffer cartridges or bottled ink (neither included). Condition: The lacquer is super shiny and clean.
No cracks, chips, dents, dings or wear to the finish. The original red Sheaffer box and the enclosed original documentation and instruction booklet is in good condition but there are ink stains on the cushion insert. There are two Coop stickers on the bottom of the case.
The Targa nib looks good to me, but please look closely at the photos to judge for yourself.
