Circa 1910 Conklin 75 Black Chased Hr Crescent Filler Fountain Pen Restored
For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Scarce circa 1910 Conklin 75 Black Chased Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in writing condition. I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. I hand-cleaned the outside and inside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the smooth cap banding, Crescent Filler pressure bar, and 14K Conklin Toledo #7 NIB. I have cleaned, lightly buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the hard rubber. This Conklin 75 measures 5 11/16" capped and 7 3/8" posted. This Conklin is made of Black Chased Hard Rubber. The hard rubber displays a nice black color with no oxidation to speak of. The chasing on the barrel and cap is seen but is light. This fountain pen cap always securing tightly to the barrel. I want to point this out for clarity sake, I had a Master Fountain Pen repair specialist, Andy Beliveau, craft a gold band for the cap as there was a clip lip crack. He repaired the crack and added the gold banding - you will not see any crack from the inside of the cap now. The cap is a clipless type. The smooth gold-filled cap banding is very clean with no wear. The barrel imprints are light on this pen. The end of the barrel has the CONKLIN TRADE MARK 75. The center of the barrel is very worn and can only make out, CONKLIN CRESCENT FILLER TOLEDO, OHIO U. I have tested the Crescent filling mechanism with water and fills as it should with the new latex sac. The Crescent Filling System works great and operates as it was intended to. This Conklin 75 has a 14K Conklin Toledo #7 Nib.
The actual iridium top on this #7 Nib has a medium point measuring roughly. 65mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium to a double broad line. In the writing sample provided, the medium line measures at. 71mm and will flex to a double broad stroke measuring at 1.35mm with medium to firm pressure when measuring with digital calipers.
The nib is writing smoothly and is a pleasure to write with. This is one of those vintage Conklin Crescent-Fill Fountain Pens that is extremely rare that individuals rarely get a chance to secure in their collection. For the collector, this is a "grail" vintage fountain pen to add to the collection.
I would consider the pen to be in Fine to Very Fine condition. This Conklin is ready to write, if you choose to do so, or just add it to your writing arsenal collection. Please review all my images as they are part of the description. If you have any questions, please ask. I have other restored fountain pens for sale, if you have the time, please look through my listings. I spend a great deal of time traveling, talking with people, sitting at auctions and waiting in line at estate sales to find these pieces. Some of the items are "farm fresh" and some I have had in my possession for years and time to let others enjoy. If I can find out, I will. These are antiques so expect them not to be "perfect".
