Sailor 1911 Profit Limited SHIKIORI. 14K Gold Medium Fine Nib Fountain Pen.You really gotta love these Japanese pens and their awesome nibs. I got this pen at a stationery shop which is also where I got my Pilot Custom Heritage 92. Sailor's Shikiori fountain pen is a pen lovers pen. A dark green cap and barrel is just an amazing color, while gold trim adds a cool reflective element well suited to the trim and nib color. This pen is an excellent choice for those who prefer a Standard-sized fountain pen. The Shikiori 4 seasons utilizes Sailor's smooth-writing 14k gold plated nib. The pen accepts either a standard Sailor converter or Sailor's cartridges. You can more closely see the clear demonstrator in the barrel detail. FEELING OF USING THE PEN.
I like the simplicity of the design of this pen. The edges are flat, the trims are simple and luxurious. Gold trims fit the body well, the pen looks clean and beautiful in a classic kind of way. The section is pretty short, I guess its proportioned to the length of the barrel, but I imagine that people with large hands will find the length of the section a bit too short for comfortable writing.
If you dont like to hold the pen too close to the nib, youll most likely end up gripping the threads of the barrel, not very comfortable. A lot of Sailor pens are cigar-shaped with black or colored resin barrels and gold or rhodium trim, but the Shikiori Line switches that up a little with flattened ends. I'm a fan of this design as it breaks up the monotony of the standard cigar-shaped, gold-trimmed pen. This particular pen is limited edition green color with gold plated trim.
Paired with the flattened ends, I think this combination makes for a slightly more modern presentation while still being subtle enough for even the most conservative boardroom. I like the ring around the cap band because its probably the only thing that kind of stands out when the pen is capped. I like the font they used to engrave SAILOR Japan Founded 1911. The engraving is crisp and looks really good. The clips design is also simple and nondescript, but I dont like that its not so springy. Its hard to slip anything under it. I certainly wont be able to clip it on my pen cases.
When you uncap the pen, youll be greeted with this pretty little thing. Well, without the ink coating it, of course. This Shikiori has a mono-tone 14kt nib. It has a single slit, a round breather hole, and is engraved with: 1911, 14K, the Sailor anchor, and in a gold-plated strip, some flourishes. The nib looks thin and long, which is pretty, and I do prefer Sailor's two tone nibs to their single tone nibs, which are more common.
Not surprisingly, the nib is a solid performer. The nib has consistent ink flow - with normal writing, there are no skips and hard starts.
Sailor nibs are not typically scratchy, and this one is not, but they do offer some feedback. Personally, I like this feeling, and it's different than a super smooth'buttery' nib. It's a surprisingly wet writer, but not a gusher. The nib writes more like a Western finer version as it is Japanese nib, and it is on the firm side, although it is not as rigid as I thought it would be. With regular writing and no pressure, the nib and feed keep up easily with long writing sessions and fast writing. With some pressure, the nib does offer a little bit of line variation.
Drying times are on the fast side, given the wetness and width of the nib. I found the feed dries out a little when I used some pressure, but of course, that's not what it is designed for. This is the smoothest fountain pen nib I've ever used. I love drawing with it. WHY SO EXPENSIVE & HARD TO FIND. Even in Japan they are difficult to find since Sailor no longer makes them. But they are such tough pens, the ones that do turn up are usually still in great condition. I loved that this pens nib is already an excellent writer right outside the box. No tuning was needed for it. It wrote very smoothly and consistently upon first inking. I even forgot to flush it with water before using, and it still wrote perfectly from the get go. Its satisfying, to say the least.
It is really smooth and the flow of ink is excellent. Please check the pictures for details. Shikiori Limited Edition 4 seasons.Resin, 14K Gold plated nib.
